"This takeout box is no more Chinese than the Americanized food usually packed in them. The design was patented by F. W. Wilcox in Chicago in 1894. The image is, however, always the *chinese* takeout box, and it means what we decide it means.
It's a moderately interesting narrative, but as always, I am more interested in the form than the narrative. It is absolutely worth a formal study and I have been enjoying it very much."
