Peter Glenn Oakley completed his first marble sculpture in 2005. His works are now held in both private and museum collections throughout the United States, and he has exhibited in many galleries and museums, including Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, North Carolina Museum of Art, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, and Telfair Museums. He grew up rock climbing, and worked his way through Appalachian State University doing stonemasonry and inscription work before turning to sculpture.
Oakley was a 2017-18 Visual Arts Fellow at Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and was a 2014 North Carolina Artist Fellow.
