The NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spent 8 years in a stable elliptical orbit passing low over the lunar south pole once every 2 hours. Its Radiometer collects thermal measurements of surface temperatures, and this drawing used that data to create lunar monstrance of daytime temperatures.
