(Early modern human migration model based on mitochondrial DNA haplogroup distributions- bio-geographical Dymaxion projection)

The data used to build up the delicate web of migration patterns in the drawing came from recent scientific studies in genetic variation across human populations. Mitochondria actually contain their own DNA wrapped in an unusual circular structures, and these are also visible within the drawing as striped rings amongst the threads which connect the continents.
